This ground-breaking new device will boost your catch rate and enhance your fishing experience.

It’s happened to you. Admit it. You’re sitting on the bank or on the pier, staring intently at your rod tip, waiting for that subtle tap-tap-tap. At the same time, you need to find a bush or tree or something and soon because you have to go so bad your eyeballs are floating. You don’t want to leave the rod unattended, but neither do you want to reel in and miss an opportunity.
What to do?
Fortunately, a new product makes the “go-or-stay” decision a whole lot easier. It’s called the Bite Buddy, and it’s a far cry from those miniature cow bells and flashing light devices some people use to alert them to a fish-on condition.
The Bite Buddy is a two-part system that keeps you fully aware of your bait status even when you are up to 175 feet away from your fishing rod.
The heart of the Bite Buddy system is a small, wireless vibration sensor/transmitter that attaches to your fishing rod by way of a hook-and-loop patch. This unit detects the rod vibration from a fish hitting on your bait and wirelessly transmits that signal to your Bluetooth-compatible iPhone or Android.
The second part of the Bite Buddy system is an app installed on your phone. Several interesting features make up the Bite Buddy app, the most important of which is the fish-on detection and alert function. If you’ve ever used an audible strike indicator, you know that their effectiveness is hit-or-miss, and often is dependent on the species you’re fishing for. A light-biting fish, such as sturgeon, may not trigger some mechanical or electronic strike indicators. On the flip side, you may be after catfish and not want to be alerted every time a turtle or panfish takes a swipe at your glob of chicken liver.
When you initiate the Bite Buddy on your phone, a simple graphic user interface allows you to set the sensitivity of the received signal and customize the alert levels to match the conditions and species you are fishing for.
One of these setting is the Bite Line. When the vibration sensitivity passes the Bite Line threshold you’ve set, you’ll immediately hear an audible alarm through your phone, letting you know a fish is sampling your bait.
The other setting is the Fish On Line. Set this threshold for the hard bites when there is no doubt that a fish has gobbled up whatever it is you’re offering and is on its way to the next meal. This can be set to an alert tone that’s different from the Bite Line alert tone so you always know the intensity of the bite or strike and can respond accordingly.
Since the Bite Buddy allows you to customize the sensitivity settings, it’s applications cover a wide range of fishing conditions: trolling, still-fishing with live bait, or cast-and-sit fishing beneath a float or on the bottom. Now, if you have to take care of personal business, grab a drink out of the cooler, or do something else while you’re waiting for the bite, just do your thing…the Bite Buddy has you covered.
In addition to the customizable bite/strike indicator function, the Bite Buddy app makes use of your phone’s GPS locator. The Fishing Forecast panel provides the moon position for your location, tidal information, and the relative strength of the major and minor feeding times for morning, afternoon, and dusk. There is also a Weather panel so you can see what’s about to happen throughout the day.
Another cool feature of the Bite Buddy is something called My Stringer. This program allows you to record the data of each fish caught, along with a photo, so that you can keep a “virtual stringer” of your catches. It also ties into your email and social media services, such as Facebook and Instagram, allowing you to share your success with friends and family. Using this feature can automatically send your information to the Bite Buddy website and enter you for a chance to win a spot on the company’s annual marlin fishing expedition.
The Bite Buddy isn’t for every fishing application, but if you still-fish or troll and would rather do more with your time on the water than stare at the tip of your rod, this is one product that will ensure you never again miss a bite.
